Fox Revenge (The Madison Wolves, #5)

Fox Revenge (The Madison Wolves, #5) - Robin Roseau well, where to start ..., I like this book but I've expected better.

A large part of it consists of the same-old-same-old, well-known squabbles between Lara and Michaela, that, to be honest, begins to be rather wearisome and annoying. It kinda feels like they fight over and over again, sometimes just for sake of it, over and over the same subjects. But perhaps that's just me and my little hopes now in vain, that they would be able to deal with their mistrust, get over it and live some sort of "happy life". Though, don't get my wrong, I enjoy it, but sometimes too much is just too much.

Story is fairly good with a bit more emphasis on action this time compared to the 4th book, (but much less than in the preceding ones), considering Michaela is "caged" somewhere most of the time, although it depends on the angle one looks at it.

At last, little time inconsistency popped into my eyes. Story starts off with Lara in seventh month of her pregnancy and probably also seven months from previous events though it looks like much more, considering in the 3rd and 4th book Scarlett and Angel were only 16 years old and in the last grade of high school, but in the 5th Scarlett is between 18 - 19 in a first grade of college.

But truth be told, in spite of all of my complaining I enjoyed it and look forward for new Michaela's adventure and the next book.

Fox Afield (The Madison Wolves, #4)

Fox Afield (The Madison Wolves, #4) - Robin Roseau I was rather cautious about reading this book after what happened in its forerunner, but in the end my worries were unfounded and I've to admit it's great and together with the first probably best in the series, well at least for me.

The story starts off less than twelve hours after previous events (directly after the third) with Laura and Michaela setting off to their honeymoon, where after a week they get the call from Bree (girl Michaela saved) that something bad happened and she needs her help.

Overall, I had blast from the beginning to the end, story, though not so complex, is fun and has its share of great moments to got me hooked. Michaela again reveals bits from her past there and there. Sure, there is less action than in the previous but it didn't mind to me much.

Also I'd say M&L's relationship is slightly more mature this time. While Lara, as is usual, continues to prove her bold and bully nature Michaela has become more confident and manages to stand her ground, plus finally they've put some effort to try to deal with their trust issues.

Fox Mate (The Madison Wolves, #3)

Fox Mate (The Madison Wolves, #3) - Robin Roseau For me the book is rather big step up, unfortunately in wrong direction.

I was told it's probably weakest in the series and I gotta admit, despite my "expectations" there were few occasions where it got quite ridiculous even for me, and at times I had to persuade myself to continue reading.

It's rather hard for me to comprehend why Michaela stays with Lara, who after two previous books continues to doubt Michaela's judgment, showing her mistrust, forgetting she should've told her that and that, though she still can at least use her "alpha-excuse".

I didn't like where it went. I didn't like to read about how everyone continues to humiliate Michaela. I loved her character, the brave, charming, strong-willed fox in cruel world. I hated to see her broken and willingly submitting to abuse and torture by the wolves who were supposed to be her friends and love her. Excusing and reasoning it as a "wolves-culture" cheapens everything even more.
Hunter's Way - Gerri Hill I can't exactly pinpoit what I din't like about this one. It just feels like something is lacking.

Story was good. I envisioned it'd be better though. To be honest I expected this to be detective story with a bit of romance not the other way around.

Further, it feels author could put more though into characters. I liked Tori and Sam both, but they are quite predictable and lack any real depth. Also author's idea of-everyone hates Tori didn't really work up as she is actually quite sweetheart. At last, while I' didn't care much about side characters I'd be disappointed if I did, coz most of them feel like they are there just for sake of being there.

Still, book had its funny and enjoyable moments, it just didn't matched what I'd had expected.

Fox Play (The Madison Wolves, #2)

Fox Play (The Madison Wolves, #2) - Robin Roseau While still very good, overall the book lost a bit of its charm and went a little downhill.

Michaela still continues to be so charming as ever but I feel some of the characters changed in a wrong way, though mainly Lara.

It comes to me she had increasingly become quite a bully and not really caring for Michaela. Also, while she keeps asking Michaela to have a faith in her she rarely gives a reason.

On the other hand, story is better, this time there are very few feeling-redutant spots unlike in the prequel. I rate it 3 stars but it's more like 3 1/2 maybe more.

Ultimately, it's still really nice book and worthy sequel, could it be better? sure, is it good? it's.

Fox Run (The Madison Wolves, #1)

Fox Run (The Madison Wolves, #1) - Robin Roseau Main protagonist Michaela is were-fox and as it's shown, for fox it's quite harsh world out there. Her character is charismatic and very easy to like. She have to and tries to deal with psychological trauma from her past, yet she still continues to be brave and fights for what she's worth.

The book is truly enjoyable. The story is rather simple and leaves a bit to be desired, but still a notch higher than it's usual in the genre. Side characters while rather single-minded are likeable and interesting, each with a own, little story.

Only thing I didn't like is, as was already said, they are both a bit bitchy (Michaela and Lara).

Overall I really recommend the book.
Bloody Claws - Winter Pennington I got conflicting feelings about this one.

The story as is usual, starts off great but later on falters and becomes hardly existent almost until the end, where some should-be-important but guess what it's not conclusion happens.

Another thing I truly dislike is that main protagonist had become pretty sluty again (is it really so hard to embrace self-control a bit?). And again, rest of the author's books have the same problem so probably I should've seen it coming.

Overall I think maybe the author should stop putting so much sex into her work just for sake of sex and next time rather put more though into story, characters and other aspects.

I like her books, but they all shares, more or less, the same exact pattern and it gets tiresome after a while.

I also feel, author pushes "lesbian thing" too much sometimes. It leaves one wondering if there is at least one person straight.
Witch Wolf - Winter Pennington For it is good or bad this book shares the same positives and negatives as a rest of Winter Pennington's books.

As is usual in her books, the main protagonist is cute and very likeable and it's even more true about Kassandra. Also as in her previous work this book offers great deal of action paired with a lovely and "naughty" romance.

But sadly there are also few bad things. Unlike Kass the side characters are rather shallow and could use much more space. Also the story while not bad leaves a lot to be desired. It starts great but then almost nothing crucial happens till the end where again, in last 5 pages, some no-one-care-boss encounter takes place.

Overall book is great and I enjoyed it, though it's neither 4 nor 3 stars but somewhere between.
Summoning Shadows - Winter Pennington Storywise better than prequel but I didn't like much what main protagonist become. Actual romance isn't well thought thorough either.
Darkness Embraced - Winter Pennington overall rather enjoyable with a tiny-bit different take on vampires. But in the end rather lacking story, though occassionaly funny, together with somewhat equally lacking characters leave a lot to be desired .

SPOILER ALERT!
For a Few Demons More - Kim Harrison pros: skimmer is breath of the fresh air.

cons: Author again teases Ivy/Rachel relationship, that goes nowhere, and probably never happens because their romance could detract from marketability of next books in the series, or at least as it looks, Kim haven't made her mind yet.

In one interview she says, she decided when she was writing book 4, they will never be together, then in another, she says if they will get together it won't be before last book(teasing), which is rather sad. I think books like these are more about journey than the end, and Rachel's journey slowly gets tedious and boring.

I also feel dead of Kisten was rather unnecessary. The book has slower beginning, as usually it gets better later on, though, there is less action than in the preceding books.

The sttory and charactes, especially Rachel gets quite stagnant. She is still the same naive girl, with the same moral dilemas, doing the same dumb decisions repeatedly.
A Fistful of Charms - Kim Harrison My favorite book in the series.

Rachel finally decided Nick belongs to past, which I'd say is best thing she's ever done (I wasn't really fond of their relationship) and Jenks - my favorite character after Rachel ofc. gets much more space in this one. Though, Kisten not so much.

Also Rachel/Ivy relationship nicely progresses (just shame Kim kills this later as the series progresses - marketing I suppose).

A few cons, as usually there is rather a lot of typos, some things are badly explained and Rachel is as much naive as usually. Also her moral dilemas are getting little tiresome.
Every Which Way But Dead - Kim Harrison I'd say this and 4th book are best in the whole series. After those two books, series has slowly started to decline.
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead - Kim Harrison Much better than the first book. There is more action but what's more important the story is significantly better.

But again a little slow beginning.
Dead Witch Walking - Kim Harrison Very slow beginning (I gave it up - almost) but gets much better as book progresses.
